Today, Candidate for Mayor Minch Lewis expressed his disappointment in the petty bickering and negative attacks that have overwhelmed the final days of the Mayoral campaign.  He particularly expressed concern for the spirit of bitterness that has been seen at candidate forums and in television sound-bytes.

“The bitterness I have seen in the last few days is a disgrace to the people of Syracuse, “ Lewis said.  “Syracuse deserves better.  The negative sound-bytes show each of us why City government has been paralyzed while the City has declined.  We need Serious Solutions – no smear tactics.  Our city deserves better from those who hope to be its next mayor.  We need a New Kind of Leadership.”

Lewis cited the recently revived debate about the Carousel Mall expansion as an example of the failures caused by candidate bickering.

“The Mall expansion is a done deal.  The bottom line is that it is a $900 million investment in Central New York.  Instead of bickering about who is at fault for whatever wrongs exist, we need to concentrate our energies toward preparing for the project itself, the influx of well-paying construction jobs, and the increased tourism to the region that will result.”

Lewis is the only candidate with a detailed, multi-year budget in place that lays out a specific plan to prepare for the impact of the project on our community and properly utilizes the PILOT money in a way that will help our neighborhoods and schools.
